Your details

Used to greet you and to put your name on your certificate.

Your partner can take the course too — they sign in on their own device with the same access code. Because nothing is stored online, the two of you will not see each other's notes or progress.

How this works

Worth knowing before you put a lot into it.

  • There is no account. Your name and email are kept on this device.
  • This device only. Everything you write — notes, guide answers, your progress — lives in this browser. Open the course on a different phone or computer and it starts fresh.
  • Clearing your browser erases it. So does private or incognito browsing.
  • Printing is how you keep it. Anything you want to hold onto, print it or save it as a PDF.
  • Signing out does not erase anything. On a shared or library computer, use “clear everything” at the bottom of this page when you are done.

Before You Start

How This Course Works

This course is designed to move with you. There are no grades, no deadlines, and no one right way to work through it. You can take your time, return when you’re ready, and focus on the information that feels most useful to you.

Here’s what you’ll find along the way.

A Module, Start to Finish

1
Choose a course + module

Start with the course and module that makes sense for where you are. Each module shows you what it covers and approximately how long it may take.

2
Start with Before You Begin

Each module opens with a short introduction to help you know what to pay attention to as you learn. When you’re ready, select Begin the Module.

3
Move through the learning slides

Use the arrows, swipe, or select the dots along the bottom to move through the slides. Nothing is timed. You can stop whenever you need to and return later.

4
Explore key terms + local resources

As you move through the course, you may see key terms or Columbus-area resources connected to what you’re learning. Select them for more information, definitions, or ways to connect with support.

5
Pause + Practice

Throughout the course, you’ll find opportunities to turn what you’re learning into practical next steps. You might be encouraged to ask a question, talk with your support person, prepare something for later, or learn more about your care.

These are for you. Complete the ones that feel useful, when they feel useful.

6
Check your understanding

At the end of each module, a few questions will help you review some of the most important ideas. These are not graded. If you miss something, you can try again and use the explanation to learn more.

Your individual answers are not shared with Queens Village.

Listening Instead of Reading

  • Look for the Listen button. Where a page has narration, you’ll find it in the top bar on the welcome page, beside the module details on Before You Begin, and just below the slide itself.
  • Nothing plays on its own. Audio starts only when you select Listen, and select it again to pause. You can read along or simply listen.
  • Moving on stops the audio. When you go to the next slide the narration stops, so two things are never playing at once. Starting the new slide is up to you.
  • The speaker icon mutes and unmutes. On a computer you can also drag the slider beside it to set the volume. On a phone or tablet, use the device’s own volume buttons — most will not let a web page change the volume for you.
  • Not every page is narrated yet. Audio is being added over time. If there is no Listen button, that page doesn’t have it — nothing is broken.

Tools You Can Use Anytime

Key TermsFind definitions for words and phrases used throughout the course. You can search the full glossary or print it for later.
Local SupportFind Columbus-area resources for pregnancy, birth, postpartum, infant feeding, mental health, food and other needs.
Reflection GuidesEach module includes a guide to help you think about what you’re learning and what it means for you. Complete it online or print a blank copy to write on.
NotesKeep your personal notes, Reflection Guide responses, and saved next steps together in one place.

A Few Things to Know

  • Go at your own pace. There are no due dates. You can complete a full module at once or break your learning into smaller pieces.
  • Start with what you need. You do not have to complete everything before you can benefit from the course. If a particular module feels most useful right now, you can begin there.
  • Your personal work stays private. Your notes, Reflection Guide responses, Pause + Practice activities, and Concept Check answers stay on the device you’re using. Queens Village receives only limited enrollment and course-progress information.
  • Your information stays with this browser. If you use another phone, tablet, or computer, your notes and responses will not automatically come with you.
  • Save what you want to keep. Print or save important guides and information as a PDF if you want a copy you can access outside the course.
  • Invite support into your learning. You can talk through what you’re learning with a partner or support person, share resources with them, or invite them to explore the course on their own device.

Most importantly: you don’t have to learn everything at once. Use this course as a resource you can return to as your questions, needs, and experience change.

Queens Village Columbus
Welcome

Why this class matters

For generations, Black families have shared knowledge about pregnancy, birth, babies, and caring for one another. We have also navigated real inequities in maternal health and healthcare. Sometimes experiences become so familiar within our families and communities that we begin to assume they are simply part of pregnancy or birth.

This course is an invitation to learn more: about your body, your options, what to expect, signs that deserve attention, questions you can ask, and ways the people around you can support you.

You deserve information that helps you feel prepared for birth — and empowered to participate in your care.

A note for Black families in Columbus

This is your city, and this course was built for the families in it.

Black maternal health inequities are not only a national issue. Black families here in Ohio and across our local communities continue to experience differences in maternal and infant health outcomes and in their experiences of care.

Knowing that context isn’t meant to make pregnancy or birth feel frightening — and it isn’t a prediction of what your experience will be. It is one reason this course intentionally pairs childbirth education with tools for navigating your care.

Throughout the course, we’ll help you:

  • understand what is happening in your body and your care;
  • know what to expect while leaving room for your individual experience;
  • recognize when something may need additional attention or support;
  • ask questions and better understand your options;
  • build a support system around you; and
  • communicate your needs, preferences, and concerns.

Our goal is not for you to leave knowing everything. It is for you to leave feeling more informed, prepared, supported, and confident about where to turn when you need more information or help.
